The University of Victoria ‘Vikes’ Hockey Club travelled 10 long hours on Friday, arriving in Cheney, WA for back-to-back tilts against the Eastern Washington University ‘Eagles’.
The Vikes won a hard fought battle against the Eagles, with a score of 4-2. Luciano Somerville (#19) opened the scoring for the Vikes on the power play in the first period, followed by a short-handed tally scored by Shawn Mueller (#16), a power play goal scored by Carsen Willans (#7), and an even strength goal scored by Wolfgang Schoenefuhs (#21). Scott Legault (#30) had a dazzling performance between the pipes, stopping 60 of 62 shots faced. The Vikes continue their season tonight, with a 7:30pm rematch at Eastern Washington University.
