Wolfgang Schoenefuhs opened the scoring just under 40 seconds into the first period assisted by Mike Janz and Brandon Volpe on Friday night. Eastern Washington was quick to follow up with their first goal half way into the first period with a shot that came from Taylor Bargar assisted by Austin Breen. The Vikes wrapped up the first period with their first power play goal that was buried by Patrick Holland, assisted by defenseman Kyle Bird and forward Shawn Mueller.
The Vikes started the second frame strong. Jack Palmer scored short-handed, assisted by Henry Hart and Patrick Holland, all but 8 seconds into the period. The final goal of the game was shot by Cody Allison from Carter Melynk, resulting in a 4-1 victory for the Vikes.
Saturday night’s contest started with yet another short-handed marker delivered by Liam Shaw from Landen Matechuk within the first two minutes of the game. Eastern Washington was not far behind in scoring their first by Tanner Hawes, assisted by Luke Van Schaack. The Vikes wrapped up the first period with a goal from Jack Palmer, assisted by Henry Hart and Patrick Holland.
Period two’s scoring started rather quickly with the Vikes scoring within the first 3 minutes of play. Chris Manhas delivered the goal assisted by Brandon Volpe and Landen Matechuk. Eastern Washington yet again followed up quickly with their own goal shot by Taylor Bargar, assisted by Beau Walker and Brett Mathews. The Vikes found themselves on the powerplay soon after and quickly capitalized with their man advantage with a goal off Patrick Holland’s stick, assisted beautifully by Shawn Mueller and Kyle Bird. The Eagles ended the period with a goal by Beau Walker from Brett Mathews, ending the period by a score of 4-3 Vikes.
Period three was just as spirited, with team captain Luciano Somerville delivering the Vikes their fifth goal, assisted by Shawn Mueller and newcomer Noah Henry. The Vikes continued the mayhem with their sixth goal shot by Brandon Volpe and assisted by Liam Shaw and Kyle Bird. The final goal of the period resulting in a 7-3 victory for the Vikes was delivered by Jack Palmer, assisted by Patrick Holland and Braeden Cyra.
